Linestyle with fill between two lines

I would like some ideas on how to create a linestyle containing two lines in the color red, with fill in the color blue.  This will be used in a mapping environment to create the roads.  I do have it in ArcGIS but unable to create in MicroStation.  Any suggestions?

  • Hi Mike
I don't think your answer is going to work. You need something to hold or set the second color (Different from the Active Color setting). The only way you can do that is to have the Element for the Symbol and use the Symbols Color for the second color. I think that Ron has the best solution so far.

    Hi Max,

I came up with a simple method to "fake" multi-color linestyles using Display Styles and self-referencing.

Here's a short video that explains exactly how to do it.

  • George is on the right track here I believe. The only thing I would change is not using a point element for the fill. Instead I would create another stroke pattern and apply a width to it . See screenshot for this option. This will produce a wide line that can be placed between the 2 border lines. The great part is that it will be smooth around arcs.

  • Hi Clive,
With Multi-Lines you are limited to linear elements. Arcs and curves aren't supported with Multi-lines, as Nasir mentioned. My method works with curves and arcs, as well as lines.

You can use any colors you want when you define the Display styles. In my example I showed two different color combinations, red with blue infill and yellow with green infill.

    Regards,
    Ron
  • Isn't this just like a multi line? But with a multi line you can have whatever infill colour you need and not just blue.
