You could do this from the batch processor while in another file or write a script file and run it while in another file...
Microstation used to have this feature from the microstation manager so you could compress files or folders without opening files.. but its nolonger available from the manager
so now you can only do it the way I described...

Probably yes, but the request is "simple answer" and to use helpers like autorun requires a proper workspace configuration, so it's not "simple solution for a user". But it would be the right solution in the case, if a compress on exit will be not sufficient.
