3D Reference File Hidden line display

Hello, I'm having some issues when trying to display hidden objects from a 3D referenced files in a sheet drawing.  I have a 3D design model which is referenced into a plot sheet model, with nesting on.

In the Design model:

In the first image (attached) I have a solid object (in yellow) which has other solid objects (salmon color) protruding from the yellow solid.

The salmon objects are reference files attached to the yellow object model.  I've attached another reference file solid object (dark grey) to the yellow object model. I've also created a hidden line display style which shows the hidden lines.  When I change my display style for the dark grey object reference file to the new style, the only hidden lines I get are of the grey object itself and not the protruding salmon objects (image attached).

I can't copy or merge the dark grey object and just change the active display style to my display style because I don't want anything inside the yellow object to show, only the hidden protruding objects inside and behind the grey object.

In the sheet drawing:

The yellow object model is attached to the plot sheet drawing with nesting turned on.  I've tried different variations of attaching the model files to try and get the results I'm after, but I can't get any of them to work like I need. Attaching the files directly to the plot sheet model produces the same result.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to get this to work?

Thanks,

Kevin

  • Hello Kevin,

You could try using a combination of a Clip Volume with Display Styles. By using a Clip Volume, you can apply different Display Styles to different sections of the model. Have a look at the attached video example, it may be of use. In this case, the Clip Volume is defined to be the volume space you wish to view hidden lines, and then anything outside this clip volume can be viewed/displayed without hidden lines. The View Attributes dialog allows setting a Display Style against what is inside (Forward) the Volume and a different Display Style to what is outside the Clip Volume.

    I hope it helps.

    Regards,
