Hello,
Im quite new to MicroStation and I've got the following thing:
When I only want to change the level a line or complex chain I use "change element attributes", and only check the box in front of "level". Then I choose the level to which I want to change the line or complex chain to.
When I follow those steps, the command changes the linestyle as well, while that box is unchecked.
Can someone help me?

I agree with you Jordy.. this has always been something that has frustrated me, as well as many others over my ten+ years using Microstation,
Don't know why its be implemented this way.
Stands to reason that if its un-ticked, then it should remain as original, that would give you freedom to choose.
ByLevel is ByLevel.
If you don't want the element to be ByLevel, you need to create or change it to be NOT ByLevel. This is not confusing, nor is it different between various CAD packages. If you want attributes to be set per individual element DON'T set them ByLevel.

I don't understand ... I have 4 options in the change tool and works fine for me in V8iss3, and 4
1. Change object to BYLevel colour and that's what is preset in the level manager ( watch out for dgnlib settings)
2. Change it to NOT use bylevel option ie any another colour of my choice for that one element
3. Change everything on that level to bylevel via the symbology override colour you want in level manager and change to by level in the change tool if it wasnt already by level, now it will take on the override but so will all objects on that level if they were/are bylevel...
and
4. Not widely known ( well IMHO not widely discussed) double click on the colour until colour table shows then choose Real Colour central tab this will force the colour to its RGB values and if not set in your pentable at printing will force a WYSIWYG to that element colour...( turn off overrides if any in level manager) for that level only.
