Hi Forum,i have a 3D tunnel Solid that i need to find the edge of. i need to run a line in plan along the edges with the view of finding certain distances from the extremity of the shape. i need a line 500 friom tunnel, 3000mm from tunnel, etc.Whats the best way to create a line along a solid edge and know that line is in fact definitely the outer most line in plan?

If you are referring to Secure File Upload, that provides you with a way to supply sample data relating to an issue in a secure manner -- it is mainly intended as a connection between you and our Support team. If the file you provided (I assume that is tunnel.dgn?) is not confidential, is under 20MB, and is something you do not mind others within the community to look at, you can attach it to your post by selecting the Insert/Edit Media button in the editor toolbar.
tunnel.dgn should be attached...

Andrew,
a very unregular structure....
Have you tried the "extract edges?"
Regards, Stefan.
Did you try File>Export ... to 3D. When you have rotated to "Plan" ( Top View?) you can get the projected outline - I am getting a nice line of "extremity" when I use "exact" Then I can correct any points - where the reducing happens - and following I create a chain from that manually. Last I do a copy parallel at 500 or 3000 as you describe. You may then reference that into the original model. Otherwise that may be a task for InRoads/Rail ?
