Consistent X, Y and Rotation using saved views

I am attempting to used a synchronized saved view to  control the files being referenced to my sheets,  Here is my work flow:

  1. Create various Design files
  2. Create a Master File: This references all of the Design files and sets the levels display and overrides
  3. Create a Saved view in the master file
  4. Reference the Master file with live nesting synchronizing with the saved view
  5. I use presentation only and use a fence clip boundary in each sheet

My goal is to be able to only have one file that controls all of the Aesthetic setting for the plan set.  Can someone please direct me or provide some links on how to best do this?  What is the proper procedure for updating a saved view within the master file? I want to lock the saved view at X: 0 Y:0 Rotation: 0 but it seems like whenever I come back to the sheet files the reference and/or its boundary has been altered.  If I make level changes in the master and then overwrite the saved view sheet file is always altered away from 0,0,0.

Thanks,

Matt Spencer

  • What you might like to consider is to define all of the settings within your projects seed file. That way whenever you create a new design file for this project all of these items have already been defined, attached or configured previously.

  • We already have a very extensive DGNLib we have created as well as seed files containing our settings for the project. The issue is that I want to be able to synchronize our sheets and our design. We receive very frequent requests from clients to make aesthetic changes such as to turn off a certain level in all of the sheets or to make one level a thick purple line. A lot of times these changes may be temporary, or the changes will only be for one sheet set only.

    EX:
Client is not sure what color scheme they want for a sheet set with 20 sheets. They want to try 3 options for a level color
    1- Purple
    2- Black
    3- Red

Since we are using print organizer to control our printing, I should be able to just go and change the one levels color with an override in the design master file and update the saved view. Then reprint the pdf with print organizer repeating three times. The system is already in place, but I can't figure out why the synchronized references will not maintain a set x, y, theta and clip boundary between updates to a saved view.

I can post an example DGN if what I am saying is unclear.

  • Sorry for the delay in response. It still seems a little unclear what it is that you are trying to achieve. If you have level overrides defined in a master design file for specific levels then this should control the way those levels look in their display. Maybe if you could provide and example with a few screen captures showing how this appears on your system we can try to replicate what you are seeing.

  • This is an excerpt of the documentation I prepared for my organization's use on the type of sheet setup you describe:

    • Attach sheet-series base file
      • Synchronise with saved view ( ≥SS3, choose "all settings")
      • Live nesting depth = 1
      • Display overrides = Never
      • New level display = always
      • Global LineStyle Scale = master
      • Use Active Annotation Scale = On
      • Attach coincident
    • Clip base file using base file matchline shape,
      • SS2: Temporarily uncheck reference "synchronize with saved view" setting to clip, renenable afterwards
      • SS3 and later: Temporarily set reference synchronize mode to "presentation only" to clip, then return it to "all settings"
    • Save settings,

If you later update the saved view to make changes, be sure the "update camera position" checkbox is NOT checked to avoid causing coordinate/viewport shifts in your sheet

Here's a video about it, maybe a bit dated on the procedure:

  • When I use saved  views as a ref attachment  I dont get the  option for world coincident  its  free floating at the  cursor...  any one else ?

how can I bring this back anyone?
