I don't believe I've pressed any button to cause this.
Is there a quick-fix to this?

RE: What on earth is my program doing?

Thank you!
communities.bentley.com/.../4172

Specifically where it mentions:

Setting QV_D3DVERSION to a value of 9 (in the environment variables of Windows) will force MicroStation to use the DirectX 9 interface, starting with the next execution of MicroStation. If this removes the lines in your file this may be an indicator of how your graphic card driver interacts with the DirectX 11 API's.

The suggestion is if this is a desktop download the latest driver from the card manufacturer or if you have the latest you may need to roll the driver back to the previous driver before the latest.

If this is a laptop please consult the laptop vendor's website to get the latest certified NVIDIA driver for your device.

RE: What on earth is my program doing?

GPU: NVIDIA Quardo FX 1800M (Driver version 9.18.13.4144)
