Good decision!
So far it seems to be working ok
It's been working OK since MicroStation V8 was introduced in 2001 8-)

If you've been using the Command Window, you may be unaware of the MicroStation Message Center. The Message Center provides more feedback than the message, status, command and prompt fields...

The Message Center is resizable

You can see a list of messages posted in the current MicroStation session

You can copy text from the Message Center

You can expand and collapse the Message Center like the key-in dialog

RE: Annoying nag screen on exit

I find typing commands quicker in some cases than using the mouse, so the ability to key in commands is invaluable. In addition there are some commands (e.g. JUSTIFY LEFT/RIGHT/CENTER) that I've never found on the standard pallettes (though I'm willing to be corrected on this). I'm fully aware that I'm a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to user interface preferences (in any software package), though I'm willing to try new things.

In the case of the key-in dialog, I've never used it before as it seemed redundant to the command window. However, I've now switched to MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW=0 and using the key-in dialog instead. So far it seems to be working ok.

RE: Annoying nag screen on exit

It is quite unusual that you are still using the configuration variable MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW for this very old method of displaying a command window.

communities.bentley.com/.../give-microstation-an-antiqued-look

If it is just the old keyins that you are using from this dialog then it would probably be better to use the Key-In dialog available under the Utilities menu.

Are there any specific tools or methods of working that you are still using from this Command Window? I would suspect that anything that you could keyin to this dialog would also be able to be performed in the Key-In dialog.

RE: Annoying nag screen on exit

Hi Simon,
Unfortunately it also means I don't get the command window
Yes, it seems to be correct. I tried it and my MicroStation behaves the same way.
and I use that a lot
May I ask why? Command windows is a concept which was left I guess 20 years ago. Does it provide some feature, which is accessible using only this dialog?

Anyway, tt's the side cut as it cannot be used anymore in the next version of MicroStation.

With regards,

I tried using a new user in the workspace, and found that I didn't get the exit alert. I then went through my personal ucf file, commenting out each line at a time until I found the variable that caused the problem. The line in question is MS_USECOMMANDWINDOW = 1 - if that is removed I don't get the exit alert. Unfortunately it also means I don't get the command window, and I use that a lot. I suspect that the command window and exit alert are in some way inextricably linked, so it's something I'll have to live with.

Thanks to all for you help. Debug file attached in case anyone can come up with other suggestions.

If this is occurring in your current MicroStation V8i and previous versions of V8 then it would have to be a customization setting defined within your workspace when you login to MicroStation. I would suggest using the default workspace to see whether the settings is located as a configuration and as to whether this message still appears.

It would also be helpful if you could supply a debug file for when you start up MicroStation V8i. This would show whether you have any customizations affecting this operation.

communities.bentley.com/.../11081.how-to-quickly-generate-a-debug-file

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

That Nag screen pop-up must be something someone set-up for you. I don't see it when I exit M-Sta. that way and don't remember ever seeing it! See if you have a variable MS_EXIT defined to run something upon exiting M-Sta..
