I have loaded a dwg file that was probably created with Inventor, into my MicroStation v8i. When I add a note to the dwg file my physical memory usage rockets up and has caused my pc to freeze.

I use V8i with Windows 7- 64 bit and 8Megs of RAM. Several times I have loaded dwg files (R2007) that probably originated from Inventor. When I make a small change to the file (adding a text note), or even just load the file, RAM usage shoots up to 6.6 or 6.8, and has on occasion caused the system to freeze.

Memory usage stays up even after the dwg file is closed and I have to restart the pc to reduce it.

It could be coincidental and not related to the dwg file but had never happened before I started working on the dwg files..

Can anyone suggest a fix?

Can we assume you intended to write 8GByte of memory?

MicroStation V8i is a 32-bit application and can normally use a maximum, imposed by the operating system, of 2GByte of memory.  Something else must be using additional memory.  That's not to say it's unrelated.  If you use the Windows Task Manager, can you see any memory-hogging processes that might be responsible?
