Bentely V8i Application Logo in the taskbar is incorrect

Hi everyone, I have recently had Descartes V8i installed on my computer.  Ever since then, it doesn't matter what V8i application I am running (microstation, InRoads etc) the Descartes logo is always displayed in the taskbar even though Descartes is actually in fact NOT even running.  I have attached 2 images to help clarify what I mean.  Capture 1 shows a .dgn file that I have open in Microstation V8i, but the logo shown in my taskbar at the bottom is Descartes.  I know Descartes is not open because none of the Descartes functions are available.  The same Descartes logo is displayed in the taskbar if I open the .dgn file in InRoads V8i.  Capture 2 shows the Microstation V8i logo beside the file name when I hover the mouse over the Descartes logo.  I find it very weird that the Descartes logo is displayed even when it is NOT the application the .dgn file is opened with and it keeps confusing me.  Has anyone had this problem?  And any idea how to get the correct logo to appear in the taskbar for the application being used.

Note.  if the .dgn file is opened in XM it displays the correct Microstation XM logo.  It seems to only be a V8i thing.

thanks for any comments.

Regards,

  • I've got Decartes V8i Select Series 5 and Microstation V8i Select Series 3 Version 08.11.09.536

I don't see any platform Configuration option but,

Everything is functioning properly regardless if I open a .dgn file with Descartes, Microstation, InRoads etc.  its just silly that it always shows the Descartes Icon on the taskbar when the application launches, regardless of which one it actually is.

  • Do you have Bentley Descartes for MicroStation 08.11.09.601 installed?  If so, then do Start > All Programs > Bentley > Bentley Descartes for MicroStation you should see Bentley Descartes Platform Configuration.  If you open it up you should see a list of applications that Descartes can be used.  Do you have check marks for the applications in the list or are they unchecked?

  • fmcallis, thanks for your reply. That was a very good suggestion. However dcartes.ma is not included in the "MS_DGNAPPS" configuration. I just double checked it, and also, Descartes does not actually open when I open the .dgn file in microstation. that's the weird thing here...The file opens in microstation and I know Descartes doesn't open because I would see the opening window and there would be Descartes functions available and this is not the case. Its the same thing if I open the file with InRoads. The InRoads functions are available and NOT any Descartes functions, but the Icon that displays in the taskbar shows the Descartes Icon not microstation or Inroads. its really strange. It only started happening when I installed Descartes. It used to always show the correct application. I think it's something in the registry files but Im not really very comfortable messing with the registry...
    thanks again.
  • Have you added “MS_DGNAPPS > dcartes.ma” to any of your products User Configuration Files (*.UCF)? To find the .UCF files in your product do WorkSpace > About WorkSpace and look at the path under User Configuration. Adding “MS_DGNAPPS > dcartes.ma” to your product .UCF file will cause Descartes to be loaded when you open your application.

You can go to WorkSpace > Configuration and find the environment variable MS_DGNAPPS and look at the paths that are define to see if it shows dcartes.ma.

  • Hi Pascal, thanks for your reply. No, I do not have Decartes icon pinned to the taskbar or any Bentley software pinned for that matter. Basically as you probably know, when an application is opened ie. Microstation, It will show an icon down on the taskbar so you can easily navigate between different applications that are open. It doesn't matter which Bentely v8i application I have open, it always displays the Descartes Icon. It doesn't matter if I double Click on the .dgn file to open it, right click on the file and choose "open with" or even if I drag and drop the .dgn file onto the Microstation desktop Icon it still displays the Descartes Icon on the taskbar once it launches. Hope that helps a bit.
    cheers.
