MAP CTRL-O to Fit

I woudl like to be able to MAP CTRL-O to Fit

This way when I work in Microstation it woul doperate more clike  Acrobat and adobe products.  This is automatic for me and I now have gotten so used to it that it messing with me while in Mstation.

Using this to open files I find is not as frequest and there are other ways to do that as easy

  • Lorys is almost correct with the operation of Ctrl+O for File Open but it is not a Windows setting, it is hard coded into MicroStations operations. You could possibly write a new VB coded tool to overwrite the operation of Ctrl+O but I would think that would be a waste of valuable time to change the basic operation of something fundamental to MicroStation. What Lorys is suggesting with the operation of other Ctrl keys or using other mouse buttons is probably the better option. I personally like to have the View Toolbox displaying at the top of my View windows. The Fit tool is always up the top to use whenever I like.

  • I don't want to just be different as I can do this other ways. I just use Adobe quite a bit and we probably all use Acrobat. So the Ctrl-o gets to be automatic.

Some days I do miss my digitizer with the 12 buttons as I was quicker with many things

  • ? My Adobe Reader also opens the "File Open" dialog if I press Ctrl+O.
You probably know that a "DoubleClick" on the mousewheel does a fit by default?
I guess though you may have mapped your tentative to the "middle mousebutton". As always I recommend to finally refrain from this practice of "oldschool". You loose the most time saving functionality with 3D. E.g. rotating your 3D view "on the fly" using Shift+MiddleMouseButton. As well as "panning" by PressAndHold-MiddleMouseButton. I know that there are some third party programs that rely on the tentative a lot. Yet As the need for a "Tentative" is so much deminished by AccuSnap we all should get used to the tentative by Left-Right-Mousebutton (default I don't know how long "eversince").
You could say that this is kind of finally dropping a "bad habit" and feeling much better when you do. It took me a while I confess, But I actually feel much more "healthy" with the default settings now. What do you think? ( I am writing this to find out what others think about the tentative - I learned that some trainers still recommend to set up the MiddleMouseButton as tentative - May be I should start another thread for this though?)
  • Gerd,

I dont do alot of 3d but I find I need the tentative alot to check coordinates  so my hand aches  when I use the cord 2 fingers alot...

But I think if I needed to spend a long time in a 3d file its easy to change the settings then change back for every day 2d etc...
