Rotating 3D views

Hi,

At the moment I am finding it a little difficult in rotating both the front & right view, so its square on i.e. matches the orientation of the top view.

Once I have rotated the top view, what method shall I use to rotate the other views? Is there a quick way of doing this?

I am using the section tool to isolate certain areas.

Thanks

  • Are you looking to have the same view context (including orientation) in the other views? Or different orientations of the one view in the other views? Or something else?

  • Hi,

    Thanks for your reply.
In the top view I have the railway track orientated so its aligned horizontally. I have 3D electrical equipment e.g. cubicles, transformers etc along the edge of the track. Obviously the track alignment varies quite a lot over 5 miles, so I have to keep rotating the views.

So, at the moment I am copying the equipment along the edge of the track.
I would like to have the same orientation in all views, so when you look at the top view, I would like the front view and right view to match. If that makes sense.
I know that sometimes I have to rotate the ACS, so its aligned with the view before I can work in that particular view.

    Thanks
  • Hello,

I am not sure if this matches your workflow exactly but you could try using the Accudraw commands RE and RV in combination with the ACS Plane lock to have your front and right views match. So...

    • With Accudraw in focus (hit space bar or F11), type RE and turn on the option 'Update Current ACS'
    • Click a point on the element that the view needs to be aligned/rotated to
    • Type RV to rotate the View to the orientation of the element
    • Turn on the ACS Plane lock (from menu Settings > Locks > ACS Plane)
    • Now when changing the View Rotation using 'Top View', 'Front View' and 'Side View', it should rotate around the new rotated ACS
    • See the short video attached showing this
