changing dimension style on a note makes you need to replace note

This has been a problem for some time now and I'm wondering if anyone has ever come up with a resolution.  I know notes are kind of a *** where they aren't really text or dimension but yet we need to be able to use them on a daily basis.  If a note is placed and then later it is found that it was made using the wrong dimension style or text style you can change the text height by changing the text properties and update the arrow size using using the change dimension but the in line leader and text placement never seems to adjust properly.  We have always needed to place the note again which is very time consuming.  The problem I have is illustrated in the picture below:

If I change the scale from 1"=1' to say 1.5"=1' in the model I get the results below:

If I place a new note and then change the scale everything works as it should.  It seems to only be a problem if you change the dimension style after it was placed.  BTW everything is using annotation scale just to be clear.

Thanks!

  • Similar occurrence with text and styles. I have been trying to get a good underline working without troubles when styles change, but this particular issue evades my attempts also.

Good on you Marc for bringing these whoary old chestnuts to the fore again.
I have been thinking it is time for a blitz on Bentley and the cop outs they have carried all these years.
Who else has noticed no updates to MS since 08.11.09.459 ... years ago. No one can tell me this is a "perfect" release.

There are many, many issues such as these that I'd love to know why they are not fixed after YEARS of problems. Maybe someone, a long time ago suggested a workaround and Bentley thinks "job done" and washed their hands of it. Maybe TRs have been raised to no avail (TR306922). Maybe users just "get on with the job" and file these issues away in their minds for "another day".
But whatever the answer, I do sincerely hope there is a solution out there, and not a hack.
    I'll be watching.

  • Totally agree with you 1000%

But it wont happen especially as  a new release version Connect is in the wings so now all development  on V8i will cease if not already..

So we'll have to see if they  fixed it in the new connect edition then if not  then bang on about it for an other 3 or 4 years then next edition might have it..

The way I fix it  for now  is  place a new note the way  I want  it and and  use match dim  to set it as default and  use it to change all the odd ones ... if I then have  to edit the text just double click and edit... not the  best way but seems to  work for me.. well most of the time...

  • This whole thing with dimension styles is a sore subject because even though text can have an annotation scale, dimension styles must be hard coded to the text size. I've been using Bentley for a long time but it's a tough sell from a production standpoint when you can go into AutoCAD or Civil 3D and change the annotation scale in the viewport and not only the text but the arrows change as well because the dimension style is annotative. It may seem like a small thing but it's an incredible time saver and hopefully something Bentley will adopt soon as the industry would rejoice. It's the little things in life that make all the difference.

This is a link to a previous discussion that shows that changing the annotation scale can already change both the text and dimension style if set up correctly.
