Full Justification and Paragraph Indentation

Is it possible to use full justification and indent the paragraph at the same time? For example, I would like the text to look something like this:

AASHTO - The  American  Association of  State  Highway  and

Transportation Officials is a standards setting body which

publishes specifications, tests protocols  and  guidelines

which  are   used  in   highway  design  and  construction

throughout the United States.

However when using full justification and the paragraph indent bar at the top of the text editor it ends up looking like:

AASHTO - The  American  Association of  State  Highway  and

Transportation  Officials  is  a  standards   setting  body   which

publishes specifications, test protocols  and  guidelines  which

are used   in  highway   design   construction   throughout   the

United States.

So it only indents the last sentence of the paragraph. Is it possible to get the full justification while indenting the paragraph text?

  • Lorys is correct in that pasting from MS Word directly into the Word Processor text editor can be quite advantageous in that it generally retains the formatting of the text. What I would like to show you, though, is that the Word Processor should be able to format the text in this same manner using the indents and tabs.

This first image highlights the indents that have been defined after this text was pasted directly from your post into the Word Processor. You will see here that all of this text is indented at the same place.

If you then select the lower part of the text you wanted to indent differently and move that indent a tab in from the edge all of that text with move to that indent.

I hope this information is of assistance.

  • The source of the problem are usually to many control characters in the sting.  There are a couple of things you should do to keep this from driving you crazy.  Strip out all control characters.   If its a lot of text I will do this in notepad.

    1)  Remove all the Line Feeds/Carriage (Returns) and tabs so its one big long line.

    2) Use the grips to resize and let word wrap do its thing.

    3) Select the ENTIRE text in the editor.  Then slide only the lower slider to indent the the paragraph.

    4) Text can now be resizes with the grips and wrap properly.

Remember   <Returns> are for NEW PARAGRAPHS ONLY.  The next paragraph will have a hanging indent as well.

If you want to add line spaces without messing up your format use <Shift> <Return> not <Return>

Edit:  The original OP also spoke of full justification (aligned evenly on left and right margins).  To my knowledge MicroStation does not support this type of formatting.
