Create custom keyboard shortcut? (Redo = Ctrl+Y)

Is it possible to create a custom keyboard shortcut in MicroStation that will perform a Redo command using Ctrl+Y?

I recently purchased a gaming mouse with programmable buttons and I have already assigned Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Y) to some buttons. Ctrl+Y appears to be the Windows standard for Redo. I might be able to program a button to achieve Redo with Ctrl+R (as required by MicroStation), but I would prefer a single button for the operation in all programs.

  • In my opinion reassigning F1 is not a good idea. (Not only because it contradicts JJWutt's desire to unifiy the handling for all products)

Particularly because of this unique behavior:

Choose a function > then click into the TOOLS SETTINGS dialog > then press F1 ... this opens HELP FOR THE CURRENT FUNCTION

This is very helpful for everybody. And it eases finding how to use any particular microStation function. (even for the smartest microStation users) Don't you think? That much for the extend of my ever present signature being recognized in the first place...

  • The Ctrl keys used in MicroStation are all hard-coded into the software and would have to be reprogrammed if you wanted to change what each of them is being used for. As you have already started to reprogram the buttons on your gaming mouse I would suggest continuing to do this for the REDO command. It sounds like you probably already know how this could be achieved but the following Wiki should be of some help in achieving this.

  • Thanks for point that out Anu,

But I still think F1 is wasted F key being duplicated in a pull down menu, and  also from keyin window help is also a command so always  available...

yes I know its a Windows MS convention to use F1 for help .. but microstation users are usually smarter than average MS windows product users ( well at least "smarter than the average bear boo boo") and the best part of mstn is being able to customise so much of what your want for increased productivity and personal preference.

And if our fellow user dislikes Ctr R so much then  the F1 key is pretty handy  being the first key next to esc   and I'm sure he'll also find a use for F7  once he has seen how easy customising the F keys are....

  • Hi, here in this article is a list of default button and function keys: communities.bentley.com/.../default-button-and-function-keys.

F7 is unassigned, so you maybe can consider using that for redo command.

I dont think you can reprogram the existing  keyboard short cuts or make new ones they  are Hardwired so to speak..

However as you have already  discovered you can custom program the  commands to your mouse

Are you aware another  option is you can also custom program commands to the  Function keys if you dislike Control R

The command keyin is  REDO and you can put this into say the F1 key which by  default is the help but help also has a  pull down  so sacrificing  F1 isnt  too painful so now you would have  for redo a single  key ie  F1..

go to workspace > function keys then in the  section for F1   where it says help just overtype it with REDO and press ok  it should then work as you like...
