  • How did others find the broadcast? I have complaints - or was it all our fault? My colleague travelled 20 miles to be introduced to wonderful Bentley, but was disappointed.

The registration confirmation page simultaneously gave the start time as 1.30 EST and 1.30 EDT, which caused doubt as we didn't receive the link till 18.50 GMT, after emailing Bentley - 20mins after expected start time. We had followed instructions to download the .wmp Ffox plugin and run the little test video to check the setup - but nothing was viewable in Ffox. In IE, sound was OK but tiny picture frozen, occasionally stuttering. On restarting IE and reloading, message 'this broadcast has finished' - but it hadn't - and didn't come back.

Having only just viewed the election live on BBC with a flawless picture six times the size, with idiot-proof setup and connection procedure, we were unimpressed by this offering from a top notch IT company. Or was all it our fault?

Is the broadcast now available to view, after the vent?

  • Tom - I'm sorry to hear you were having issues.

Videos of the launch event are posted here: http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Promo/V8i/Broadcast.htm

  • I had a similar experience. Received link 20 minutes late during which time I made sure I had the newest version of silverlight. Broadcast would not work on Safari on OS X. I have watched other silverlight broadcasts without problems including streaming 3 videos at the same time during the PGA Masters tournament. Next attempt was Desktop PC running XP. Tried with Safari and I.E. both failed. My last attempt was on a 5 year old notebook with XP and I.E. and to my surprise it ran without an issue. Sound was good. Video was smooth but small.

Caught the presentation retrospectively - super-Sketchup looks wonderful, GC fully built-in and revving up for many new uses, looking forward to the flowering of Hevacomp and Tas (two more firsts for Britain, as we used to say).

However, this and other Bentley videos won't run on Ffox, for me anyway, and it's a nasty shock to have to fire up IE, where everything works OK.

    Bridget.Lucas@bentley.com courteously emailed me:

"Thank you for your candid feedback.

We are in the process of reassessing the communications for upcoming webcasts."

And downloaded videos too, I hope.
