Turn-off Level in Ref file, But not turning off in Active file even with ref display overrides set to "Never"

Hi,

I have a active file with a master ref file attached to it.

The ref file is set with: Live Nesting 1, and Display Overrides to "Never" so I can use the ref file level setting to control my level display in the active file.

But for some reason I'm working with this active file, and when I go to turn-off a level in the ref it's not turning off in the active file.

Am I missing something, I thought if you set a ref with "Display Overrides to Never" the ref control the level display in the active file..Please help

Thank you,

  • How are you turning the level off? Global Freeze or Global Display? Are you sure you are choosing the correct file in the tree view of files?

  • to just add more info to the discussion

If I have a nested ref file attached and in the  ref manager  near the bottom rhs there is a level overrides set to never..

When this happens I cannot turn off display of any levels, change attributes etc by level or by overrides to any ref file  in te nesting or the ref file either..

    BTW I hate that!

I have to go to the nested file it self and make sure the same overrides set to never is set to always and then turn off etc in the nesting  .. then retunrn to my original active drawing forth  changes to take effect...

So I dont  think the button means overrides in the sense of by use of  level overrides  but  either never allow to make changes to levels and attributes  or always allow changes...

  • mwlong - I'm turning off the level in the nested file (which is my master contain file for all my references)

I turning them off in there in the "Level Display" menu and at the top of window the pull down menu is set to "View Display"

I done this before and it work fine, but now it's acting all weird

I'm think maybe there some configuration setting that's been change with out me knowing..do anybody know of a config setting like that could disable the "Display Overrides" ref setting
  • Lory,

I doing exactly what you just said..and I'm getting snagged on the level display.

I turn on a level in the level display in the ref file, and it turns on, and then I do a save setting

then, reopen the file my ref file is reference to (w/ display overrides set to never) and the level is not turned on when it shoud be, right?

am I missing a step somewhere?
  • Okay I think I might found the reason why things aren't turning off and on in my sheet file based on the changes I'm making to the level display in the ref file

It's weird why this is happening

But it seem like when I'm making changes to my ref file to get the level display set and do a save setting it works

but the catch is when I use the undo view icon to revert a previous view I had (see the image of icon attached)

lets say I had a line turned off and I did a saved setting, and it turned off in the sheet file, but then in the ref file I used the undo view to turn the line back on and then do the saved setting, it would NOT  turn back on in the sheet file

I found the different was I can't use the undo view and save setting to hold my level display, I have to "physically" turn it on and off through the level display menu..to have it take

so now it's working..but the fact you can't use the undo view setting to revert back to a level display totally doesn't make sense to me..but you can't (maybe this a bug with MS)
