I just did the update from windows 7 to 10 and I am experiencing some strange behavior with the Microstation File Open/Save As dialog. I can resize the dialog to expand it by dragging the window frame in the standard windows fashion, however I can not resize the dialog to make it smaller. More of an annoyance and not high priority but I was wondering if there was anything I could do or anyone else experiencing? Also the minimize button on the Level Manager, References (etc.) dialogs does not work. Other than that Microstation seems to be playing nice with Windows 10.
I am Running Microstation V8i SS3 08.11.09.578 on a 3 year old Thinkpad W530.
Which version of MicroStation are you currently using on Windows 10? The version number can be located under > Help > About MicroStation. Just to note that Bentley have not yet released a version of MicroStation that has been certified for use with Windows 10. The latest release, MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) 08.11.09.459, is certified for use on the following operating systems.
Supported Operating Systems
Windows 8Windows 8 (64-bit)Windows 7Windows 7 (64-bit)Windows Vista, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise editionsWindows Vista (64-bit)Windows XP SP2 or later, Home, Professional, and Media Center editionsWindows XP Tablet PC editionWindows XP Professional (64-bit)Windows Server 2003 SP1 or laterWindows Server 2003 (64-bit)Windows Server 2008 SP2, Standard and Enterprise editions (64-bit)Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Standard and Enterprise editions (64-bit)
I am not saying that it should not work properly but trying to get this version operational on Windows 10 would be at your own risk.
Bentley would recommend that you use whichever version you have installed on a supported operating system.

Hi James,
I am experiencing some strange behavior with the Microstation File Open/Save As dialog.
I see the same.
However it seems to not be MicroStation related. It looks like one particular widget in File Open dialog box is blocking downsizing the entire dialog box.
On my computer I can sort all programs to either one of two categories, the one using this control and one which does not. All programs using this widget experience aforementioned weird behavior.
Here are ones misbehaving, note the presence of "Look in:" widget. Also they all will inherit the dialog box size once changed in any of them.
Here is an example of the other group which lack this widget and act normally:
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
/Chris Z.
This is a follow-up -- I did some forensics and I think the anomaly can be traced down to how the File Open dialog box is called by MicroStation.
I used:
1. Two programs exhibiting this anomaly: MicroStation and HM NIS Edit.
2. A registry hack: msdn.microsoft.com/.../ms646960.aspx
When the vertical Places Bar is enabled (default behavior), both File Open dialogs can be grown, but only HM NIS Edit / Open Script can be shrunk:
However when the vertical Places Bar is disabled, HM NIS Edit / Open Script looks now more like MicroStation / File Open and none of those dialogs can be shrunk (!):
Please also note that Places Bar look different on both dialog boxes, when present.
I have a hope that above observation can provide a clue to Bentley about what is the source of the problem.
