ZORN OS Compatibility

Has anyone had any experience or feedback on with running Microstation v8i on a Linux Zorn OS?

  • I am running MicroStation in a virtual machine on top of Linux (www.virtualbox.org).
Such setup requires a Windows license though.

Virtual machines integrate seamlessly with host OS:es these days, sharing folders and what not.
The only thing you can not expect is full 3D graphic hardware-assisted acceleration, but you still will get a decent performance.

As the guest OS can be isolated from Internet and still be able to access your LAN via shared folders, and v8i runs happily on Windows XP, it may give you the best performance of relatively slim OS without risk of compromising security by being no longer supported OS.

On the other hand, I found Windows 10 almost as fast as XP when virtualized, but there are some minor annoyances with regard to v8i running on Windows 10 (nothing catastrophic though).

    Cheers,

    /Chris Z.
