Connect, Slab changes in SmartSolid when attaching material

When I attach a material to a slab, with different Variables attached to it, so I can change properties later, it changes to a smart solid. In this case the variables doesn't work anymore.

Is this a bug / is there a work method where I can attach materials while the object stays a slab?

    Hello Louis,

    I can't reproduce your issue. I created a parametric slab, using the "slab" feature tool, then assigned variables to its Height, Length and Width via the properties dialog and then attached a material to it. The solid remained a parametric slab.

    Have I missed any steps? Did you incur in this issue in a new file created with CONNECT Edition'seed file?

    Hi Marco,

    Yes, I used a Seed file file from the delivered Connect Edition Workspace. In the movie attached to this message you can see the workflow.

    Attaching materials to individual faces (as opposed to the entire element) has to promote the Type 19 slab element to a SmartSolid, the simple primitive types can't support per-face material attachments. So if you had just accepted the element without picking a face it would not have changed it to a SmartSolid.

    If you really do want per-face material attachments, if you create a shape profile and extrude it to create a Parametric solid, then as Marco suggested you won't have this limitation. HTH

    Thanks Brien, you're workaround works. You can see the result in the visualization community gallery.

    I hope you can see that materials per object is no solution. I think in most serious visualization work it isn't.
