Tasks in Microstation Connect

Hello

From what I can see, the 'Tasks' in previous verions of Microstation, are now replaced by the 'Ribbon' interface/system.

It seems that any of your existing tasks are converted to Main Menu item 'Tasks', which when selected, presents you with what were your 'Tasks', now converted to Ribbons.

Is that correct?

2nd question. ..... have the Tasks been removed completely? Is there no way keeping some of the Tasks?

I'm not against the Ribbons approach, ...... there are some positive aspects to it. But it does also have some 'disadvantages'. Mainly forcing all the tools to be at the top of the screen when sometimes that is inapproriate.

It's a bit of a shame if the Tasks have gone completely, as it was IMHO very good and Bentley were ahead of the game on that one. My feeling is that there is still plenty of mileage in it and in certain situations would be preferable to the Ribbons approach.

Guess no one considered the ratios involved in Drawing Sheets (A3, A1), when making these decisions.

Hello. Thanks for that. I missed that one.

This is good news!I was hoping that we could have BOTH the 'traditional' Tasks, and the Ribbons.
    Why??????
Take a Drawing Sheet, .... you can do this with a pdf, maximise it on the screen. You will see that when the Drawing then fills the screen from top to bottom, but there is still spare room to the left and right. Essentially, one would normally want to maximise the view of what you are working on, .... the Drawing. There is some spare room horizontally, but no spare room vertically.
So what do we do, ..... lets put all the tools at the bottom and top of the screen, ..... where there isn't any spare room, ..... whilst there is spare room to the left and right. One can only guess this was done because, ..... that's how Microsoft Office does it.
No offense to Microsoft, but they produce Office software, ..... not AEC design software, .... they don't really deal with/cater for Drawings/A3/A1.

This might not be so bad on a big monitor, but on a laptop this starts to become ‘restrictive’
Ideally, one would want some 'standard' tools that are visible all the time (snaps, ACS picker, Locks, ....) the use the Ribbons to show the relevant tools for the particular work you are doing.
I'll investigate creating some custom toolbars and putting them to the left (or right if one desires). The Tasks approach was a very good way of grouping these together and maintaining some consistency.
I guess one might put the 'standard' tools in every Ribbon. This though would probably take up half the Ribbon and would reduce its effectiveness
    My 2p for now, ......

  • Not sure whether this is going to help you operationally with using ribbons but in the top right hand corner, next to the Help icon, is an up arrow. This allows you to Minimize The Ribbon. This should allow extra space at the top of the application window when working with a smaller display, like on a laptop or touchpad.

All that will then be displayed is the Ribbon Tab titles for each of the Button Groups.

You just need to click on any of these Ribbon Tab titles to expand them out to display all of the tools relating to those options.

You should be able to locate further information in the Help Documentation under Ribbon Controls.

Home > The Ribbon > Ribbon Interface > Ribbon Controls > Minimize The Ribbon

I hope this information is of assistance.

  • Hello.

The above was helpful as I had minimised the ribbon and wanted to know how to get it back. I'm an architect and have been using V8i for several years, (I have been using microstation since 1998) it had a lot of key-board short cuts,so that if you pressed 1,2 3 etc it brought down menus and also certain keys such as H it deselected items. In powerdraft connect I don't see this, which is a pity becaue it was quick. the ribbon thing is quite slow, and the tapping the spacebar is also a bit slow and only appears to work when the home menue is selected.

I'm working on two monitors, so it is more an issue of getting to commands quickly, thatn having space on a laptop.

as a non-cad manager, how would I go about setting this up on my computer? also, is there a way of restoring the V8i shortcuts?

Did you check the link provided by Andrew?

  • Dear Jose, Thank you. I will have a look. Interestingly, clicking the little up arrow next to the search bar has locked the  drawing ribbon in place across the top of the screen and got rid of the irritating Microsoft ribbon - for now.
