seed files

CONNECT comes with new seed files. Are there any significent diffenrences between the seed files of V8i and CONNECT we must take into account?

Thanks,

Andre

  • There are a number of default seed files that are supplied with each version of MicroStation, including V8i and CONNECT Editions. The location and naming of these seed files have changed in the CONNECT Edition but they should only be classed as a basis for any work that you are performing. That is, if you are performing specific project work within your company you should be defining any of your seed files you require to perform this work on the basis of what is required for that project.

    MicroStation CONNECT Edition:
    C:\Program Files\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Seed\

    MicroStation V8i:
    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\WorkSpace\System\seed\

There should not be any differences between the default seed files provided between the versions but you might notices that the Example Projects that have been supplied between versions, and their equivalent seed files, have changed. If you have any specific requirements for the seed files with your work then you should probably configure new projects with any seed files you may have previously used.

  • The main changes relate to view setup and scale, some text settings to be more realistic for the view scale, some render settings changes and a few other minor tweaks. Solid and resolution settings have not been changed. As Andrew mentions, the old example projects have been retired and the seed file delivered with the new project is based on the metric seed file delivered but also includes the appropriate GCS for the project.

  • Thanks Keith for the extra info.
I have a few in house developed applications that do not run properly on a new seed file, where they do run on a V8i seed file. It's odd. Problems may relate to the changes but I have to debug the applications first to get a clue.

What does it mean "do not run properly"? What kind of errors are reported or how their behaviour is changed? It may help to investigate the source of the problems.

Another questions is: Are you sure it's caused by the seed file? ... and not e.g. missing dgnlib file? Maybe some level, text (or other) style is not available because of missing definition in dgnlib?

    With regards,

  • Hi Jan,

Not properly in this case means MicroStation stopped working and aborts.
I really need to debug my app first and compare the 'old' and new seed files and settings even more before I can draw any conclusions. Your suggestions are a welcome addition to this debug process. Thanks!
