This started in the EAP forum but could someone at Bentley confirm when the steel utility is to be upgraded to work with CONNECT?
I agree steel needs to go in CE! Or allow for standard users to have access to the development package like they used to do, then I can recompile it myself. I have used MicroStation since the mid 90s and I believe Steel has been around most of the time. This is a major reason for me to keep from using the CE. If the DD cells are a good solution then why don't they include it as a download, I don't have time to sit around and build all of the DD cells

Read my earlier post: the Steel app. is delivered as source code with the MicroStation CONNECT SDK.

I'm sure they wouldn't

Well, if you speak on behalf of the entire community ...
Not to beat an old horse to death but has Bentley put any additional thought into providing this utility for CE? I am about to push out CE and users are going to need to keep V8i on there machines just to allow them to place steel shapes.
It seems Bentley would provide some version of this whether they recompile the old version or create a new Parametric version but why make the entire user base create their own versions when you can provide one version for all of their loyal Microstation users that used this utility regularly??
Thank you, mark.

Hi Mark,
we are working at making the old steel.ma fully functional in MicroStation CONNECT Edition and we will publish it in a blog post as soon as ready.
THANK YOU SO MUCH BENTLEY (Marco)!!!!!!!!!!! You have renewed my faith in Bentley once again! I don't suppose you can provide any sort of rough ETA so I can coordinate with my roll out of Connect?
Mark.
Mark, I can't give you a definite ETA yet but we are working on this as we speak and we will need some more time to test all legacy functionalities in the CONNECT Edition. A good few things have changed from v8i and the porting needs some tweaks and fixes to have everything working as it used to in v8i.
My rough estimate is that we will be in a position to publish this app within the next couple of weeks but keep an eye on the MicroStation Blog page for its announcement.
Thank you again and for the quick response... I can wait a few weeks...
Marco, Can you give me any status update on the Steel.ma utility?
Thank you so much!
As far as I know this is coming out in U14 in Jan. '20!
