labels vs cells

Hello,

I am testing labels with associations to shapes.

Attached a file in which I placed a label with association on and a cell with association on. My problems:

1/ When I place the cell as a label the fields in it associate nicely with the properties of the shape. However all elements of the cell are placed on the level of the active dimension style. This is not what I want because I want the elements of the cell placed on two different levels - as they are in the cell.

2/ When I place the cell as a cell all elements stay on the levels where they are placed in the cell but the fields in my cell don't associate with the properties of the shape

Point 1/ is probably as designed but I would like to have the option that the elements of the annotation cell are kept on the level where they are placed in the cell.

Point 2/ I don't know if this works as designed?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • In both of your examples you state that you are placing cells one way as a label and one way as cell.

Are you attaching dgnlib as your cell library?
Do you have a separate cell library file with the cell that you need to place?

I placed both cells from the dgnlib in a new file and the level structure followed what was in the dgnlib.
Could you maybe explain step-by-step what you are doing and what your expectations are. Also indicate the version of MicroStation you are using.

  • Reginald,

I attached the dgnlib as a cell library indeed.

From the documentation of Microstation Connect:

Labels can be defined in a .dgnlib file that is located at a path defined in the MS_DGNLIBLIST configuration variable.

I don't know if it is the right way to do but I tried to follow the documentation....

The left example I placed with Annotate > Place Label

All elements of the cell were placed on the level as defined in the selected Dimension Style in the Place Label dialog. When there is no Dimension Style chosen then all elements are placed on the active level.

As said I want them to follow the level structure of my cell.

    Can you reproduce this?

    Thanks for looking into this,

  • Hi Luc,

For Problem 1: For dimension, there is no such requirement to keep dimension parts on different levels. So every part of a dimension goes on the level which is set in the Dimension Style.
Since 'Place Label' tool is new and deals with (foreign particle) cells which may having different levels. I agree with your requirement so I filed an 'Enhancement' 314660 for it.

Problem 2: If you want associated cell with active fields, you can start Place Label tool> in tool-setting window, select 'Place a label without a leader' tool (make sure to turn ON Relative Association). It will update the fields as per changes in element.

  • Manoj,

    Thanks for sorting this out!
I hope the enhancement will come soon....
