CONNECT - Text editor

I have two issues with the manner it is working for me.  With previous versions, when editing text that's already in the drawing, I often hit the "Insert" key on my keyboard and overtyped whatever was was written before.  That is apparently not an option now, because the Insert key has no effect on the Text Editor.  The other issue is the disappearance of the ability to change the text width, independent of the text height, while in the text editor.  It's not something I need to do often, but having it in the text editor was quicker, and had the ability to change a single line or word, as opposed to going through the Properties tool box which affects the entire text block.

As with any new generation software release, the solutions to my problems may be there, but I just haven't stumbled across them yet.

  • Just wondering which version of MicroStation you previously used. I have tested the Insert Key while editing text in the Word Processor but cannot see what effect it was supposed to render. A quick and easy method I always use to edit text is to just double click it and the Word Processor should open automatically. The whole of the text that has been selected should highlight so if you start to key-in any new text it will be automatically overwritten.

With the CONNECT version of MicroStation what the developers have tried to achieve with the Text Editor operation is to reduce the conflicts where multiple options could be selected for the attributes of the text. What you see now with the operation is that many of the options that were already defined within a Text Style have been taken off the Place Text dialog and are shown in the Text Editor toolbar. These items are defined directly from the Text Style selected from the left hand pull down box.

If you require further details do not hesitate to ask.

  • In the Text Editor dialog when placing or editing text, I use the Arrow Keys on my keyboard to move Left/Right thru the line of text. It seems that the Arrow Keys will have the opposite affect moving the cursor in the opposite direction to the direction marked on the keys.

  • Another user had reported this issue where the Insert Key does not toggle the option of overwriting existing text in the Text Editor for MicroStation CE. See the following videos showing the difference between V8i and CE.

Defect # 539411 has been raised for this issue which will be evaluated by our software developers.

    MicroStation V8i

    MicroStation CONNECT Edition

  • Further to this, i find that the text editor will not quit on right click or Esc once i have completed or want to cancel my text input. I have to select element selection tool or another command for this to close. quite annoying
  • Hi Duncan!
I can hit a Reset (Rt. Click), it will stop editing text. Along with that if you have the user Preference (File > Settings > User > Preferences > under Input "ESC exits command") toggled On, the "Esc" key should also knock you out of the Edit command, without making any changes to the text.
