How do you create a detailed section in MicroStation?

Hello,

I am using Microstation V8i SS2.

I need to create a blow-up view of a plan area.  Is it standard practice to just copy the information and enlarge it or is there a better way to do this?

  • I used to do this self ref and clip boundaries etc but nowdays we can make it so much easier with saved views..

    Draw  a box around the area you want  to capture for reference  and presentation as true scaling for the detail view..

    now  go to Utilities > Saved views

    you will see an icon the  two hands in the new dialog box  , this is the  create saved view option then in new dialog I prefer to use the  other option -> by two points the default is view , to change it you need to click on little black triangle.

    This then prompts you for the two starting points, before you do this next step its good to give it a name, I then use the  box we just drew  bottom left to top right , it will then create the saved view and tell you it has saved it

    Now I work in model space so some steps are different .( look up help for all the different options to create it as an extra model for sheet space so it can do call outs etc for you ), next attach your saved view at desired scale as a ref file

    the easy way is to key in

    RF=.

    then hit enter  it will pop the attach ref file and the current  model already selected you just  browse down to saved view it then will list all your saved views you choose it and a scale  and place it where you want and it should have the  border already because it comes from the  rectangle we drew before.. if your using  ref files in your model make sure your  ref manager has  settings for nested on at least 2 deep... it should be now hanging off your mouse waiting to be placed with a boundary  preview visible..

    I find this the  best method for creating details and enlargements and they  are  live references and  if you use annotation scale in your work they should help update text and dims etc or if not suitable just levels turn off in the ref view and re label to suite ..

    I have found this works very well and  saves on making clip boundaries etc it is linked as a ref file so changes to the file will be reflected in the saved view and can be reused in other  drawings from the  ref file saved view...just by the saved view as another ref attachment...

    you can even use a note leader on the original polygon with  "see detail A " and then label under the  saved view detail A  scale 2:1  etc or use the tools for the  call out  bubbles....

    with sheet  views this should happen automatically  but I'm not as up to date with using sheet views as I should be...just lack of practice... and not needed for one off plans...
