[v8i][CONNECT] Place Raster attachment independent and not on level

Is it possible to place raster independently from levels as it is for references? Now they are treated as elements for manipulation which is causing troubles. Or at least option to lock the rasters without creating out of spec levels and locking them.

    Need something similar how it worked in 2004 editions

    OK: CONNECT vs. V8 2004 Edition.

    Not version specific

    Really?

  • so the answer is to use v8 2004 Edition :)
  • If the trouble is accidentally deleting selected raster attachments when selected, then set the User Preference to disable that (V8i - don't know about Connect).

    If these are aerial backgrounds, then the best bet is to attach them in a single DGN then reference that into your drawings. That makes things like clipping, etc much easier.
  • The trouble is not only deleting but accidentally changing raster level too. Also locking level is not an option as there is no allowed level for rasters.
    But adding as seperate DGN is nice trick which could be used as workaround.
  • Defect # 25139 has been filed for a way to disable raster when working with MicroStation tools.

    Possible Workaround Solutions:

    ==========================

    • In Raster Manager dialog, double click the desired raster
    • In the Element Information dialog, go to Extended tab
    • Then, find the Locked field and set it at Locked value

    ==========================

    If you are using images that are georeferenced do the following.

    After it's attached double click on the image name in raster manager to bring up the element information for the image. Then in the geometry section set the geopriority to sister file or raster header (which ever one you are using). Then in raster manager turn on the read-only toggle for the image. This won't let the image scale or move because that would edit the sister file or header. This doesn't work if your images aren't georeferenced unfortunately. If they aren't georeferenced then you have to make sure the raster isn't in your selection set before using the tools.

    ==========================

    In Element Selection expand it and look at the listing under Element Type. If it shows Raster Attachment then click on it in the list and it will be removed from the list and you will then be able to make changes to the vector data and it will not affect the raster images.

    =============================

    If the problem that you are having is that the raster is being deleted/detached and the user has to reattach the raster image then try going to Workspace > Preference > Raster Manager and marking “Disable Delete Element Tool on Selected Rasters”. This will keep it from being detached when you have it selected and delete an element.
