Double Underline with Text Style in Microstation v8i

I need to set up a text style in v8i that has a double underline. I see in some archived topics that custom linestyles were used by some to achieve this but I don't see in the text styles dialog where I can apply a custom linestyle to the underline. I have tried the method of using overline with a negative value, but as noted in the archived topics, it won't accept a negative value and resets to 0.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Nicole

  • While a custom line style is possible, how about  instead of a custom linestyle  (pretty tricky to one who hasnt  done it often),  try creating a  multiline instead , these are a lot easier to make and if you save the multiline type  to your dgnlib you can always reuse it anytime you want... BTW multi lines dont  actually need a centre line just  minimum 2 lines off set by a defined amount, then colour  weight and level is all you need. Yes its not associated  with the text   you can group it with the text so they move together...

Not as  perfect as text style underline but easy to use and consistent  look.

  • How do you associate a Mutli-line to a Text Style underline?

In my  original post I said you cant associate multilines with text but I did also say you can group them afterwards so they move together.

My point the linestyle creation tool is so horrible and too difficult for the occasional  user.. its takes so long to get it  right that  I would have  finished the drawing  before even an experienced microstation user who is unfamiliar with the line style creation tool has made a suitable custom style... Our employers will not tolerate one of users spending  2 hours to create a line style  for double underline  when two lines drawn would do the same in under 1 minutes  and yes its tedious to draw a  line and  offset it and then group it so it moves with the text...and is hard to standardise  so custom line is best approach if your  quick and  good at it  which I believe the majority of users are not  quick at it  because its such an awkward tool ( but I admit  very powerful)  but a multiline is pretty easy to master and draw with and give consistent result for everyone because you can share it and reuse it  unlike drawing 2 offset lines.. granted its not as good as custom style...

you have to weigh up is the  effort for something so simple worth the trouble, IMHO it isnt...

In Acad express tools you just  draw it and import it as a new line style or you can use note pad...( I dream of being able to do that in mstn)

My Advice if you have an acad user ( or google how to make a line style for acad with text editor)  get them to build it  for you in under 5 mins and  import it into line styles as a custom acad shx file...

If I was paying staff to do drafting thats the way I would do this as even 30 mins in the linestyle tool is not  worth the cost when a simple text editor can do this very simple line style....in 5 mins and then it will work with the text style and be associated...

  • Sorry, missed that note.  Also not sure how you apply a User Line Style for underline as the pick list doesn't show them. I still have to spend an inordinate amount of time getting underline to work at all. Particularly in Connect.

I use the acad.lin file to create new linestyles and then import into MicroStation. It's a lot easier that trying to do it on MicroStation. Kind of a shame really when you think about it!
