[CONNECT] Bug: Attached tag not displayed in Properties dialog.

Hi,

if there is an element with a tag attached, an information about the tag is not displayed in Properties dialog (former Element Information dialog).

As an example, here is the dialolog with a selected line element with tag:

The properties dialog it does show the tag as an item type, this is what they are now

What!  Tag elements continue to existing in MicroStation CONNECT.  They remain, as far as I can see, the same as in earlier generations of MicroStation V8.

Item Types are new to MicroStation CONNECT, and are a manifestation of meta-data defined in an EC Schema.

If tag elements and Item Types are the same thing, then I have completely misunderstood the latter.  Please help!

  • Yes Jon, you are correct.

Jan, if that tag was attached with assocation to the element then it should be shown in the top portion of the Properties dialog underneath the Line to which it is attached.
  • Yes, Tags can still be used in Connect, However items types will be replacing tags in the future and you have the option in the item types dialog to upgrade your tags to item types.

Refer to : Home > Drawing Composition > Annotations > Item Types , Upgrading Tag Sets to Item Types

  • Hi Paul,

thanks for the confirmation it should work. The testing design file, created in V8i (SELECTseries 3) Update 2, is attached.

This is what I see in MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3) Update 2 ...

... and the same file opened in MicroStation CONNECT Edition, build 10.00.00.25, English version:

But tags are attached and can be edited in CONNECT Edition:

This discussed problem is connected to this my question how to search for elements with tags attached using search functionality in Explorer.

Such advice is highly theoretical. I am a big fan of Item Types as I like EC technology for many years, but your recommendation is pretty far from reality that is not about "lets start to use Item Types".

I have had many discussion with my customers about CONNECT Edition and how to migrate and a simplified summary, using some assumptions about future release, of these discussion is:

    1. Now: Ok, there is MicroStation CONNECT Edition released. But no other products we use are available (typically PowerCivil and/or Bentley Map). So it's not time to think about any migration, moreover we don't trust in the first version of any software. And we are very busy at the end of the year.
    2. Early 2016: There is update version of MicroStation CONNECT Edition. Great, lets discuss new features. Item Types seems to be great replacement of tags, but we have running projects and fine tuned workflows including internal macros based on tags.
    3. Mid 2016: Other CONNECT products are available, we can start to plan how and when to migrate.
    4. End of 2016: Evaluation and testing of migration process is done.
    5. 2017: Migration to CONENCT Edition is done, internal applications, tools and settings are reworked. But running projects still have to use tags because of external subjects using older versions.
    6. 2018 - 2019: All projects using tags were finished and/or also all external subjects also migrated to CONNECT Edition, so we can swap to Item Types completely.

... so tags will be there for many years and if anything doesn't work as in V8i, the answer cannot be "use Item Types".
