Creating a new project configuration file

This is a huge topic. Most CAD managers will opt to create a PCF file with Notepad. They will generally copy a template PCF file and rename it to suit the new project, then use notepad to edit the contents to suit the new project.

This however, is dependent on how the system is setup and what variables are defined or not.

One variable you need to look out for in the PCF file is one called MS_DEF this is the variable that points to the project folder.

To help you more, it might be worthwhile copying your PCF content to the group.

Please tell us which version of MicroStation you are using: MicroStation V8i or MicroStation CONNECT.  Answers will differ depending on the version!

Creating a configuration file is easy, because they are plain text.  Use your favourite text editor (but not a Word processor that doesn't write plain text).  The tricky part is knowing what to put in them.

MicroStation help is useful: start with the section Setting Up Projects, which contains chapters about configuration variables and files.

Another thing that you might want to do (since you are new to this) is actually let MicroStation create it. At the MicroStation manager you have the ability to create a project. Doing it this way will put it where MicroStation is already looking and include the files and folder that are required. After this you can locate the PCF file and add what you need by opening it in notepad as Ian suggested. At this point you will have the folders and simply need to add the data files you want.

Where do I find the Microstation Manager? Is this a GUI that will help in creating a Workspace?
