Connect - AccuDraw: Where´s the short-cut (R+V) gone?

Hi

I'm wondering if the AccuDraw command "R+V" (rotate view) have been removed in MicroStation CONNECT?

I'm usually using the command when I want to rotate my drawing from top view to see the drawing

from a straight angle. You can see how I did it in the previous versions of MicroStation below.

Step 1. I snap on one of the corner of the block

Step 2. I press "O" to set the origin of the AccuDraw where I have snapped.

Step 3. I press "R+Q" (rotate quick) to set the right angle for the drawing to be straight

Step 4. At that point, I use the "R+V" command, after that I'll see my drawing straight.

If the command is gone, then my next question is, do you have any good idea how to do this in another way?

  • To keep this alive...

If you have a drawing with non orthogonal walls and you want to want to place text or lines alinged to these walls I would prefer to rotate the view. This was easy by RE - cick on an one of those walls and then RV (accudraw rotateview orientview). Your whole view is rotated and you can do your work in the area. I guess the bulk of drafting users appreciate this way of thinking(?)

So in CE everybody who needs the function needs to edit the accudraw functions. That is not what a the everyday drafter is keen to do - or allowed - for that matter.

If you do not do this you have to define either 1. ACS and align the view to the view Or 2. use RV-click all everytime you want to place another element (because every time you use a comman accudraw is ainged to the again.) ... Very annoying.

Just "V" on the other side just rotates the accudraw coordinate system according to the current view. That is kind of the oposite thing in that context.

  • Yea, Accudraw could do with a little enhancement. When it was introduced in Mstn 95, it was a world-beating tool that made modeling in 3d a lot easier.

The short cuts are key 'memory muscle' tools that are essential to ensuring there 'flow' in the way the modeler works. Orientating the views and working plane before placing new elements or manipulating or modifiying them is a high usage item. Any even small improvements here make a huge difference. I don't think the devs or their managers fully appreciate this.

In any case, the shortcuts also need to acknowledge that the mnemonics need to reflect the reciprocal nature of the changes that the user needs to execute when modeling. For example, Rotate View to match ACS is the converse of Rotate ACS to match View. The shortcuts should reflect this so that you don't have to think.

Given the current tool set, there are five pairs of view rotation commands...

.. and three missing shortcuts and two missing Align tool functions.
