CONNECT View - Copy to Clipboard

How do i copy to the clipboard with the new CONNECT View? This seems to have been removed from this new version. In the old version you could use Edit> Copy or right mouse click and Copy to Clipboard. Both of these are no longer available. Why? Ctrl + C also doesn't work by the way.

  • In that case it is now practically useless as a program, and I will be un-installing this version and using the v8 version. The copy to clipboard option was REALLY useful in transferring information between one file/model to another. I was going to install on other users pc's but I'm not going to bother now!

If it is a drawing viewer why do you allow measuring, etc?

I really don't understand the mentality of this decision. This is a really bad decision!!

Remind me, what do I pay my SELECT fees for?

Why would you install a viewer to do this when it can be done with MicroStation?

  • Basically because it is quicker and easier than going backwards and forwards between file/models in MicroStation.

I have two monitors. On the left I have MicroSation and on the right I have multiple Bentley Views open to differing files/models. As I nearly always annotate my sheet models (drawings) with text, I can open similar models in View and then quickly copy from View to MicroStation. This is how I have worked for years and means O can annotate a drawing very quickly.

Taking this option away from CONNECT View has obviously been decided by someone who doesn't work in the real world, and is jsy plain daft.

Overall I'm finding this CONNECT experience very frustrating. It's the little things that make life easier, but it appears that the little things reported as part of the EAP have been ignored.
  • Why not just open a 2nd session of MicroStation instead of installing more software?
  • As Maria has suggested Bentley View is intended as software to view design files. It was not intended as a package to copy & paste text or other elements between files. If you have standard annotations you are using in your workflow then it might be worth considering storing these in Design Libraries or even just opening another session of MicroStation. You could also consider referencing in the other design file to your working file and copy the annotations from the reference.

I can confirm that Ctrl+C does still work in a default installation of Bentley View but it was decided not to include the Copy To Clipboard option in the right-click menu due to it being intended as a viewer. All of the Copy&Paste options are still available under the right-click menu within MicroStation so I would suggest if this is your preferred workflow that, as DavidG has suggested, instead of installing another piece of software you should just open another session of MicroStation on the second monitor.

Define default installation. When I installed View it found automatically the srevre workspace that we use for CONNECT MicroStation.

That's a brilliant idea. I'll open CONNECT MIcroStation on the right as a viewer (about all it's useful for!) and SS3 on the left as main main drawing program. Thanks fro the heads up.
