There is no technical reason why 64bit applications should be markedly faster than 32bit. Typically they are, but the difference is usually about a few percents for normal code. The biggest advantage of 64bits is ability to address more memory directly: 4 GB for 32bit apps (but limited to 2 GB in Windows) and 8 TB for 64bit apps.

The reported difference is really too big, so it would probably be discussed with Bentley developers to receive some insight what is happening. Valuable information can be if it's a file specific or the same for all files and also if MicroStation configuration is default one or was customized in some way.

I have the same setup in two clients.... i.e same approach to workspaces and Worksets. Only difference is the mapped drives and project folder structures

Client A (seconds) Client B (Seconds)
Open CE to file menu 13 89
Open DGN with Workset 6 98
Open same DGN without workset 5 83
File Close 4 85

The same files in both offices using V8i is 2 seconds on all tests

As you can see the time differences are huge. It doesn't make any significant difference if I am using a workset or not.

I checked the network speed and it is <1ms

If I do the same test using default CE its <10

Question - WHY?

What exactly does it mean and how do you test the network speed?

I ran the ping command to the server i.e. PING Server1 -t the result was a ping back in less than 1 millisecond
