CE - Slow to open files

Hi Ian,

Are you opening 3D files?
Have you set this variable to possibly speed up the process of displaying the 3D data:
MS_FAST_LEGACY_WIREFRAME

Setting MS_FAST_LEGACY_WIREFRAME to 1 disables the display of wireframe silhouettes for SmartSolids which may otherwise increase the time required for the initial view update.

Once the file/data is loaded (into cache), there should hardly be a delay anymore.

This variable does improve 3d response. thank you.

My issue is the time taken to open CE to the welcome screen and then additional delays opening any DGN file.

As an example

Client A

Test 1. Mapped network drives, Same project, same DGN file 3d and a 2d

CE would take 60 seconds to open the DGN
V8i would take 3 seconds to open the DGN

Client B

Test 2. Similar setup in DGN files to test 1, ie no references, a very similar workspace setup to client A

CE would take 8 seconds to open the DGN
V8i would take 3 seconds to open the DGN

There is a significant delay in opening CE to that of V8i. Some may say its related to the IT setup, but test 1 and 2 are on the same network, same users, same folder paths. so why is CE slower.

Some have said it could be the number of ms_celllists, but the same setup in V8i is OK.

What could be effecting speed from an IT point of view.

This variable does definitely improve the display process. Question is though, 1) Why is this not set by default or 2) why in order to find out about these do we need to be digging about communities to find it? 

Ian, I have referred to the MS_CELLIST variable several times, precisely because it doesn't work as in V8i

I agree, it should be set by default.Out of the BOX. I have not set this at Site level. But the the load up speed is still an issue. I have heard that Beta 2 addresses this, but I have not been invited to test this.

There is an improvement in update 2 (beta) for sure. Though it still suffers from the MS_CELLLIST bug also.
