Hello, Can you specify the version of MicroStation you are using? It can be found in: HELP>ABOUT MICROSTATION Could you post a test file displaying your issue? Regards Derval.
Hi,
it's not quite clear what do you want to achieve. As Dervalcanny wrote, can you post some example?
You mixed two different concepts: Placing cell into a model and attaching model as a reference.
To place a cell with text, that will shows the cell's name is possible, you can you text placeholders. But if the same cell is attached as a reference, it's not treated as a cell but as a normal model (which it is), so cell name placeholder will not work. But you can use model name placeholder.
In the attached cell library both types of placeholders are used: The first cell uses cell property placeholders, so after it's placed as a cell, it displays its coordinates and name (if not, use key-in fiels update all). The second cell uses model property placeholder, which behaves a different way: If placed as a cell, displays active model name, if referenced, it displays own name (cell model name).

After placement of the cell in the new file you need to follow-up with a key-in "field update all" to update it to the new filename.
I created a text string (Field with the file property of the FileName) and an active point in a file. Created a cell from the text string and point, in a cell library and attached the cell library to another file and placed that cell in it. It displayed the name of the cell library it came from until I keyed-in "Field Update All" which changed the cell to the current files' name.

G'day Guys
thank you very much for replies, sorry for late reply, to busy
my aim is to present cell library similar HTML Author tool under Utilities
it is not important the way it is done, the weather it is attahched as reference or places as a cell in active file
simply to say to be able to see them in one place but instead of typing every word of cell name and description i want to use feald to display its name adn description (see attached)
thank you very much again!
Kind Regards
Boris Tetleroyd
If you only want the name of the cell displayed or description why not put that text into the cell it self as text and part of the cell
then when you place the cell that text will be visible just as text but part of the cell you could even put the text on different levels to the graphic
like LEVEL s like
CELL NAMES
CELL DESCRIPTIONS
then you could toggle these on or off it could look like
CELL NAME TXT
( ******) < the cell graphic
CELL DESCRIPTION TXT
or if I misunderstood you want to just report a list of cells by their names.. and library
I name never been able to get the source library name once a cell was placed.. but there are BAS macros and VBA routines these Forums and ASKINGA that will produce report all the cell names used and counts of all cells in a file..
If you were starting from scratch I would set up a cad standard that has a database catalogue or cell register and strict name conventions
There is a mdl tool from the files area that produces books of cells graphically and labels them cell lib by cell lib but it also can produce a listing which can be used in excel or access...( cell tools or cell utilities I dont remember which as I have both and use them only from time to time...at work)
you could then process you list my cells macro and use the book output to paste the library it comes from..
This would only work if no external cells were added to the dgns.. but it would show up as no cell library used if they were non company library ones...
