Connect - will it ever get fixed?

OK, so half the parametric doors in my drawing just disappears... again.  Will I never learn?  Never believe what a developer says in the Marketing BS.

I've used every Major rev of MicroStation ever released and have Beta tested starting with V4.  This has too be the most unstable product (10X) that I've had the extreme miss fortune of using.  Who ever is responsible for releasing this as a usable product should be fired.  They either have no pride on no clue about quality.  Its truly sad to see a company that once led in performance, stability and features decline to such a level.

Sincerely

DavidG

  • Could you provide a sample file and more details to the issue that you are experiencing.

  • Reggie,

No, I've run out of time...and obviously patience. How about we start by dealing with the 20 or so open defects I've already filed since product release (not to mention the ones in beta that still aren't fixed). It seems pretty pointless to keep spending all my time logging issues that may or may not get fixed at some unknown point in time.

I don't believe anybody could complete a real project with this product. At least not if they are trying to incorporate any new "features" like parmemetrics or items. I've try, given it my all and now I'm screwed because I can't deliver files that are stable and have no idea when or if they will be.

I don't want to take this out on support people because they've been dealt the same crappy hand as the customers. This was clearly a management decision to shove this out the door prematurely. Now you guys are on the front line trying to defend a really bad position because somebody in the rear pushed thru a bad plan and I'm telling my client "Sorry your building doesn't really need doors does it? Well maybe you can have them when someone at BSI gets their act together." Maybe they were right and I should have used AutoCAD like they wanted me to.

  • David,

Fix will be included in the imminent update.
Thanks for your assistance + patience.

    Regards,
    Paul

This first 64-bit version certainly has its share of defects, that's for sure. I know I was really surprised when after EAP5 there was suddenly a Commercial Release. Waiting until all the bugs were fixed wasn't an option (could have taken years to fix every little thing), but a Release Candidate stage would have given them more time to fix things. CONNECT is just not a finished product, it's Work In Progress.
I'm hoping a second CONNECT version with a few hundred fixes will be along shortly instead of having to wait for "the next major release". Quickly improving the reputation of "CONNECT" would be quite welcome.
I must say that Support has been very helpful in reporting problems and getting feedback from development. It's always going to take too long to fix every single defect.
If you jumped on the new things in CONNECT quickly for production work, I think you'll be in a pretty dark place for a while David. You should probably double back to V8i as fast as possible. Jumping on a completely rewritten version for production work was quite a gamble.
The new things in CONNECT hold a lot of promise and could be really nice. Unfortunately they're just not quite as ready as they need to be to take on the world with just yet.
  • This is the problem with the subscription model. Your cornered into paying for things that don't work and theres little incentive for the company to produce a quality product because they already have your money.

However you are quite right I was a fool to attempt to use this product for its intended purpose.
  • OK my turn.

There are a few of us that have posted issues with CONNECT and in some cases have had their issue raised as a SR. Obviously we want MS CONNECT to be great, we want it to kick A&ÂŁ$. But we also need to know what Bentley are working on, what do they deem as priorities, what has been fixed, what will be fixed.

    The user base have invested a lot of money into this software and we don't really want to jump ship, but unless we see actions, I feel the following;

User WILL NOT migrate to CONNECT for c. 12 months
Users will be forced to move to other software packages

So... Bentley, please update us, tell us what is coming and when?. If you do not want to publish online, send us emails. Let us know our time spent on here and testing your software isn't wasted.

As per David, I have been a MS users since V4, I have worked for Bentley for 10 years, I now consult on Bentley software for the past 9 years, I have many many clients waiting for news. I have logged endless SR's and TR's and I don't think I have ever had an email from Bentley to say ... Your issue XYZ has been fixed.

    WE NEED TO KNOW
