But one thing really bugs me.
Whenever I open a file and start working, I have to make certain settings over and over, again and again. I just can't convince my Microstation

RE: How do I convince Microstation V8i to save certain settings.

Hello,
The following articles may help as they show how to extract keyins for tool settings and create custom tools in MicroStation V8i:
You can do Tools/ Tools boxes /down/ or CtrlT , then rolldown , find Drop, mark it, OK, now you see Drop box and dock it where you want /up/ , now you have drop command directly on screen , but you have to save it Utilities/Preferences/Operation/ Save settings on Exit / OK and now open box Create Complex Chain and set automatic, now close MS , because we save settings on exit all changes have to remain
thats my advice ,I am sure it will be work
What's the secret here? Or is it simply not possible?
It's not possible to choose what tool settings will be saved to user preference file (UPF) to be used in future sessions. I am not also aware about such list available what tool setting is stored and what not.

The most simple solution in my opinion is the customization mentioned by Lorys: To prepare own key-ins and to assign them to F keys or to create own tasks with your favourite tools. It not possible to change existing default tools, toolbars and tasks, because they are in locked dgnlib.

The key-in set item toolsettings <setting>=<value> is generall and it can be used to set nearly all MicroStation tools.

With regards,

I did just that for you using first the drop element icon then in keyin set item toolsettings and find the rest of the keyin and try =0, =1,2 etc until the right tick appeared in the dialog this is a good way to find the full keyin...

so for me it turned out to be

drop element;set item toolsettings stringstoggle=1

add that text to your custom menus or Fkey and it will run the tool and have the tick for strings and shapes will be preticked always...

read up on the set item toolsettings at ask inga and in this forum too. very useful way to find keyin strings....

ok I've done the the first one now see if you can do the chain automatic and publish the result ok?

RE: How do I convince Microstation V8i to save certain settings.

Hi Anne,

Have a look at this blog communities.bentley.com/.../user-preferences
