List Files of Type-NO "CAD Files"

I apologize if this sounds dumb but.....

Is it possible to remove the option "CAD Files (*.dgn, *.dwg, *.dxf)" from the List Files of Type?

With the file system that is used in this office, they put all of the files (in this option) in the work folder. I generally will only work in .dgn but when I want open another file in the work directory I have to select the "MicroStation DGN files (*.dgn) option. It sounds a little picky but doing this EVERY time I want to open a dgn file it gets to be REALLY annoying since all I want to do is open a dgn.

If it's not possible to remove the option, is it possible to move it to the bottom of the list?

I think you'll benefit from seeing this wiki article: communities.bentley.com/.../16349.edit-the-extensions-listed-in-files-of-type-option. I think the MS_OPENDEISGNFILEFILTER variable will help you achieve what you want.

It does what I wanted but the result is that the "List Files of Type" is blank. For me it's fine since I'm getting just dgn files in the list when I go to open a file. Is this the result that is expected when I edit MS_OPENDESIGNFILEFILTER?

I don't think it should be acting like this. Can you tell me, what version are you running and what did you set the variable to?

I am using Select Series 3, ver. 08.11.09.459
and I set MS_OPENDESIGNFILEFILTER to
*.dgn

There is a known defect in which the variable does not work with the original MicroStation File Open window, which you've been using based on your screenshot. You can leave it as is if it works for you, even though the File Open list is blank, or you can go to Workspace>Preferences>Look and Feel and make sure the "Use Windows File Open Dialogs" option is checked. Once you check this and reopen MicroStation, the File Open dialog with the Windows feel will appear and the variable does work for this File Open dialog.

Unfortunately the variable will work, but not the way you want it to. Using the Windows File Open Dialog, editing the variable will simply add the value of that variable to the list of available file extensions. Deleting or removing an option from the list is not possible. I'm sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear.

Thanks Erik, I don't really like the Windows File Open option. I got use to using the arrow keys to scroll plus when I open Microstation and I know that file I want to open is going to be highlighted I just hit enter during the splash screen and the file opens.
Like I said, it works for me so it's all good!
