New Ribbon interface, what do you think?

Hi people.

Was talking about the Connect interface with and old work mate from previous office.
Looks like both agree. Ribbon interface is a catastrophic decision.

Personally, I've really felt disconnected with Bentley's vision on how MS should evolve, I love MS, SS3 is like a Ferrari tunned for race so don´t think I'm here for Autodesk fanboyism.

I got into MS after Acad swtiched to Ribbon. I loved Bentley systems because its unique approach to engineering soft with supper serious and practical interfaces, super powerfull design environment, great 3d modelling tool, the keyboard shorcuts that allow you to super quickly change tools etc...

I could not believe Bentley would EVER switch to  Ribbon. I'm so dissapointed. What do you people think? you like it?.

  • I can't stand the ribbon interface.  For Bentley not to give you the option of the 'classic' setup, was not a good idea.  In Autocad you get the option to use your own setup or the ribbon, is that right?  Why can't Bentley do that?

  • If your complaining about the ribbon interface in 2021 then you need to update.  The ribbon was an issue when the product launched back in 2016 (when this thread started) but it's no longer required in fact the interface in 15.2 is much better then even XM.  If you don't know how to change the interface... watch some youtube video's...

  • I guarantee that I am faster with the Hotkeys than ANYONE using the stupid ribbon.  While I do not think they should take the ribbon away, they should not limit use of microstation to that slow, clunky way of maneuvering through the software.

And yes, you can customize it, but at the same time, many of us are forced to use a managed workspace and cannot customize the system.  So, hotkeys, being customizable even in a managed workspace, are much more friendly to those of us working for the man.

  • I don't understand all the complaints here... I utilized the classic dialog boxes and fly out dialog for tasks AND still use all my custom Function keys that I set up for myself over 10 years ago. If y'all are having problems, find the solution instead of complaining. I can guarantee that there is a way to have your V8i/XM/CE to be set up so that it works for you! WARNING: you may have to read or try something new!!! haha

  • You may have the luxury of time to figure new things out. But, for a lot of us, our job security is based upon our ability to be productive.  When we tell our bosses that it took longer because we had to figure out the software, they think we are either incompetent or lying.  You can't tear something away from people who have spent 20 years getting accustomed to using it and expect no complaints.
