Hi people.
Was talking about the Connect interface with and old work mate from previous office.Looks like both agree. Ribbon interface is a catastrophic decision.
Personally, I've really felt disconnected with Bentley's vision on how MS should evolve, I love MS, SS3 is like a Ferrari tunned for race so don´t think I'm here for Autodesk fanboyism.
I got into MS after Acad swtiched to Ribbon. I loved Bentley systems because its unique approach to engineering soft with supper serious and practical interfaces, super powerfull design environment, great 3d modelling tool, the keyboard shorcuts that allow you to super quickly change tools etc...
I could not believe Bentley would EVER switch to Ribbon. I'm so dissapointed. What do you people think? you like it?.
I can't stand the ribbon interface. For Bentley not to give you the option of the 'classic' setup, was not a good idea. In Autocad you get the option to use your own setup or the ribbon, is that right? Why can't Bentley do that?
I always find it entertaining when someone says they want the classic MicroStation interface. Which "classic interface" do you mean:
Do you mean the one from the 80s that didn't have icons and you had to type all commands? Do you mean the one where toolbars were scattered all over the screen? Do you mean the V8i task Manager with tools on the side?
What "classic" is depends on what era you learned MicroStation. Users tend to like to keep whatever the look/feel of the software was at the time they learned it.
For the record every single look/feel way of running MicroStation I listed is still possible.
You want to type all of your commands in via the Key-In window you can do that. Just dock it at the bottom and go for it. You can even use a combo box (very old method) of choosing your tools.
You want to have toolbars all over the screen, you can open up "Tool boxes" and select hundreds of tool boxes and put them all over the screen, no problem.
You want the old V8i task manager on the left side of the screen. Easy, pick one option from a dropdown menu. You want the outdated positional mapping shortcuts, also no problem. Simply go into Prefs and turn them on.
You can even create a screen menu popup that emulates the old digitizer interface menus if you like.
Open to the new way:
Customize the ribbon is significantly easier than it was in V8i.
Want to customize the <space bar> popup menu? Takes about 5-10 minutes to add your own tools.
Want to create a ribbon that ONLY has the tools you use. Easy to do.
Want to customize the shortcut keys, and like that their isn't a separate shortcut list for Positional Mapping versus AccuDraw where you don't have to worry about AccuDraw having focus to work, again easier than it was in V8i or other previous versions.
Last I looked the document that has a paragraph for each new feature in MicroStation CONNECT is 55-60 pages long. There are lots of great new features available.
