Hi people.
Was talking about the Connect interface with and old work mate from previous office.Looks like both agree. Ribbon interface is a catastrophic decision.
Personally, I've really felt disconnected with Bentley's vision on how MS should evolve, I love MS, SS3 is like a Ferrari tunned for race so don´t think I'm here for Autodesk fanboyism.
I got into MS after Acad swtiched to Ribbon. I loved Bentley systems because its unique approach to engineering soft with supper serious and practical interfaces, super powerfull design environment, great 3d modelling tool, the keyboard shorcuts that allow you to super quickly change tools etc...
I could not believe Bentley would EVER switch to Ribbon. I'm so dissapointed. What do you people think? you like it?.
Not a fan of Ribbon. Over the years I've found it easier to adjust to changes like this. I use Task Navigation, minimized with a few customizations for stuff that ain't on the Task Navigation ribbon. Much easier that adjusting the entire interface to look like v8i. Brings to mind all the kicking and screaming I had to put up with when we took away the paper menus.

I spent god knows how many hours customizing the menu bar. Now I had to customize Ce to somewhat duplicate IN THE RIBBON
That takes up a lot of space and is not as fast to access the sub menus.
I have also started adding these to the task navigation
Not a fast customization or workflow
Bentley used to brag about fewer keystrokes and mouse clicks. Bragging rights have been revoked!v8i vs ce user interface.pdf

MIcrostation users are lucky. I use Open Building a lot and there is no longer a taskbar for the architecture and BIM-commands, but there used to be before CE
Kirk,I haven't personally tried it yet. The developer has some other amazing software that I have tried, so I always keep an eye on his site. I thought the Multi-Keyboard MACROS might come in handy sometime.
RIBBONS
As has been mentioned dozens of times in the comments within this overall post you don't have to use the Ribbon in CE if you don't want to. Use really old school toolbars, use the V8i Tasks, use Position Mapping shortcuts if you like. Or spend an hour or less and put together your own ribbon. You can also customize the <space bar> popup to add tools you use all of the time. Again, takes 5-10 minutes to update.
FILE COMMANDS
In V8i you also had to pick a File menu to go to the file commands so not sure what the annoyance is with CE. Each of the commands you mention take 2 clicks in V8i and 2 clicks in CE. However, there are faster ways to get to the file commands.
File commands: Open - Ctrl+O, New - Ctrl+N, Save - Ctrl+S, Close - Ctrl+W, Print- Ctrl+P. OR you can use the options that are on the Quick Access toolbar at the top and add whatever you like to it so it's a single clear, rather than the multiple clicks in V8i. Takes less than a minute to add commands to the Quick Access toolbar. (Open, Save, Print - are on the Quick Access by default).
There are other shortcut key ways, like Alt+F to go to File and then N to go to new but I find Ctrl+N quicker and cleaner.
