Having issues with SS4 deployment. The connection client does not play nice with deployment. We can deploy SS4 no problem, without the connection client, but have found that when doing so, and the machine has Connect installed also, there are major crashing issues. Probably because SS4 has a higher version of connection client than Connect!!!
Also, when installing with the connection client we have the additional issue that it requires admin rights, to check for/install updates which the vast majority of users do not have. There is an option hidden within the connection client check for updates>settings that allows you to set this to not check for updates, however, no way that we can find that allows us to set this at deployment, and has to be done manually per machine.
Any ideas or more helpfully, any instruction from bentley on how to do this.

The newer CONNECTION client should overwrite the older one (if one is installed). Are the crashing issues with the CONNECTION client, or MicroStation? Can you upload your exception logs and minidumps?

At the moment, you will still need to turn on the setting manually. We are working on an admin console to allow administrators to control the updates, but it's not available yet.

See if this article, about disabling the connection client, helps.
