Associating Title Block With A 2D Sheet Model

Hi all

I was wondering if there was any way of associating my title block with a 2D sheet model so that if I change my paper size my title block scales to the new paper size.

I have 2 dgn files.

DGN File 1 contains 2 models which are my 3D design model and my 2D sheet model.

DGN File 2 contains 1 model which is a 2D design model containing my Title Block.

I almost always print in ISO A03 size, so i have created a title block with ISO A03 dimensions.

I normally scale my design model from DGN File 1 down to fit my paper size.

Recently I have been asked to produce paper drawings on ISO A02 & A04.

Rather than create new title blocks for each paper size is there anyway of associating my title block with the sheet model so that when i change from A03 to A02 for example my title block automatically scales up (or down).

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your help.

  • If you create a sheet  model you can  specify the paper size then ref attach your  title block  at  the scale factor to make it work

    a3 > A1 = 2:1

    297x420 > x2 = 594x840= A1

    a3 > A2 =Root2 x a3=1.141(297x420) =420x594=a2

scale x2 to get next size up

    A5

    A3

    A1

    2A

    Scale  up Xroot 2

    A4

    A2

    A0

but  your text must  be annotation scale to scale up..

I dont see how else to change this  for you  except if you change  the  sheet  model then match the scale  of the refs...

  • there is another way to get what you want - where the reference will follow the sheet size selected automatically. First attached the needed border as a reference file, then go to the sheet properties and look for the option "border attachment". Your border file should be listed as a choice. Select your reference file. Now as you change the sheet size below in  the sheet properties, the border will scale up or down accordingly.

Firstly Thank you for your input.

I have attempted what you have said which is associate the Border File to the Sheet through the Model Properties / Border Attachment. The problem is that once I do this I can no longer change the paper size? do you know why this is?

    Below is a screen shot.

After playing about with the Microstation I discovered that if you associate the Border File to the Sheet Model, by changing the Active Annotation Scale changes the paper size AND the associated border file - Which is great because it solves my problem but why would the Active Annotation Scale change the border file and sheet size I thought annotation scales only applied to elements that were annotations?

  • But this is the all purpose of the "thing" to change everything annotative to another scale on a drawing with a click - sheet and information of the reference.

  • Jose, you are nearly there. What you are doing is generally correct, however when you are changing the annotation scale you are only changing the scale of the sheet, and not the actual size or type.

To achieve this, create additional title blocks as models within your border file for each corresponding sheet size, A1, A2, A4 portrait etc. Now once you have associated  your border attachment, switching models within the reference properties dialog will switch your sheet size to match the selected title block model
