Can I just say that I'm completely shocked that one of the best MS tools - IntelliTrim and QuickTrim - have been removed. Can this tool please be brought back asap?

You might try reading the help file(F1) See step 3.
Trim multiple with Trim, or Trim and Extend option: Drag, drag, result. Try beating that with IntelliTrim.
There are more ways of identifying an element than simple clicking on it.
I think it's safe to say that removing IntelliTrim was not a mistake.
Then you probably won't like what they did to partial delete and break either. There were just so many tools they consolidated the most obvious candidates to clear up the interface a bit. Having both Trim Multiple and Intellitrim didn't make sense. They basically upgraded Trim Multiple to incorporate what you could do with IntelliTrim. I'm sorry you don't like the graphics of the consolidated tool, but at least the improved functionality is there. Not having to click Quick or Advanced actually works better and you'll recognize the trim and extend option button soon enough. I'm sure it's a change you'll get used to rather quickly. Sometimes change is good.

If you dont like the icons use customise and make your own.. make them more obvious or build your own F keys to run what you want Alt F , ShtF and Control F
for the 3 new trim extend tools options...
