Anybody find a solution to the radial dimension (or lack there of) leaders un-extended vs extended toggle? When the radial dimensions were removed from CE in favor of the dimension element tool (which we never used because it lacked functionality and still does) the ability to dimension a diameter un-extended or a radius extended seems to be gone. Or at least gone without allot of work.
The styles box does let me change the leader style, so i can create a style for leaders extended vs un-extended for both radius and diameter but it'll take 16 or so dimension styles ontop of the list which is already pretty long just to change between toggles which have always existed till CE.
We can't be alone in this issue people don't actually think that the diameter in the picture below looks better with two arrows inside the circle vs one outside it breaks basic drafting rules that have been established for a century. (I hand drew the far right dimension style to achieve the format desired with un-extended diameter)
Has anybody else found a work around for this or a way to make the toggles show up?
"The decision to remove the old dimension radial tools presumed that for a particular dimension style it is sufficient to choose one leader mode for radius and one leader mode for diameters. I think you are saying this was wrong. By that I mean, you need to create diameter dimensions both with and without the extended leader feature all within the same project. In that case, you could create multiple dimension styles although I admit that is inconvenient and not a good long term solution."
In v8i the following menu exists in the dimension radial tool.
While i except that the decision was made to condense the tool set there is ample space on the connect menu to put 4 buttons one for each type. Moreover, it's kinda silly to make a dimension style where both the extended and un-extended settings are identical just to make the 2-button system work. It's as far from intuitive as a developer could get with an interface. Why even both having (4) types listed for both radius extended and radius if you just have to set the values equal to make dimensions show up the way you want it's very confusing.
lastly we DO use all 4 dimension styles on a single drawing If i'm dimensioning a 1" hole and a 36" hole on the same part pending drawing scale and how all the dimensions lay down it's very likely i'll end up using both the un-extended and extended versions. You'll also see in the list of dimension styles in the original post above i have both horizontal and inline dimension styles that may both be used on radial objects on-top of this it could be fractional with feet-inch values, decimal 2, 3, or 4 place. It could be duel dimensioned to include metric and imperial units to the same fractional vs decimal dim. rule set above and it could be metric entirely 1, 2 or 3 place decimal. This will require 24 additional styles to flip flop between the types for lack of a more polite way to say it that just sucks.
Hi Grant, I've filed the enhancement 439644 to include and bring back the Radius Extended and Diameter modes to the Element Dimensioning dialog. Thanks, Daniel Eng
