[CE U1] Cell Library and Properties Window

Hi,

usually I have my Properties Window docked right side of monitor thus open all the time.

I open Cell Library Dialog, select cell lib:
C:\Programme\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\Default\Cell\areapat.cel

When I then click on a cell Microstation hangs.
It seems that it is taking VERY long for loading properties to show in the Proprties Window.
When I close the Properites Window i can click on cells and everythings fine.

Regards
Stephan

  • There have been many posts about the poor performance of MicroStation CONNECT.  If you search this Forum, using MS_CELLLIST as a keyword, you can read the experiences of others.

  • I am encountering the same problem with OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition 10.03.00.43
    Any solution to the problem?

  • Well, I'm going there step by step. For each config variable I do the following:

    1. Get variable from old cfg file
    2. Look it up in Connect Configuration Dialog (if it is still there)
    3. Look it up in documentation (if it is still there and if its usage has changed)
    4. Put it into new cfg file for Connect

    This way I can make sure that each variable works like it should.

    Some variables were removed in Connect. Sometimes a variable is still there but the functionality is kind of broken. Like now.

    I think it is a little strange that the list of cell libs defined by MS_CELLLIST has an impact on how fast the Properties Dialog can show information. At least in this case I'm clearly pointing at a well defined cell inside of that Cell Dialog. There is no need to search for anything (and also not for slowing down)

    Does your system behave the same way? Does Microstation get slower when you define MS_CELLLIST to some folder which actually contains some average number of cell libs (not 5, but also not 300).

  • I'm not sure at what point you are with the configuration of your workspaces but as MicroStation CE is a brand new build you might like to go through any previous configuration settings that may have been used in previous versions. This would ensure that the operations required might not have changed in the newer versions. The following blog is quite good in describing the considerations when migrating to MicroStation CE in relation to the workspaces.

    As for the configuration variable I'm not sure whether it is due to it looking for all Cell Libraries from the system root but you might like to change this back to the default to see what effect that might have.

    MS_CELLLIST = $(_USTN_PROJECTDATA)cell\*.cel

  • It seems that MS_CELLLIST is the problem. If I haven't defined that variable everything works smooth.

    Usually I used that variable for making all cell libraries available in File menu of the Cell Library dialog. I never had problems before with that kind of configuration. Maybe that kind of configuration is not the intended usage for MS_CELLLIST? Or is it a bug?

    To exclude the possibility that the slowdown was caused by old cell libs I tried following setup. Although it is not much of a slowdown you can still experience a difference:
    MS_CELLLIST = $(_USTN_SYSTEMROOT)cell/*.cel

    Can you confirm that?
