Reset Button

Hi All,

If I am recalling correctly then the reset button on V7 used to let you get out of the current command and back to the waiting mode or at selecting stage. But I found out

in my version of V8i (8.11.09.608) the reset button won't allow me to do like it did previously even I assigned the reset button in the button assignments with "select none" but it still does not save it nor taking any effect. Is there another way to resolve this problem ?.

Pls. advise.

Thanks in advance,

Vincent

  • Hi Vincent,
Can you try from Preferences menu-> Category: Input and select Allow ESC key to stop current command?
Do also a File\Save setting and let us know if this works for you.

  • Hi Vincent,

In addition to Maria's good suggestions:

What happens if you run the keyin to simulate pressing the reset button, enter:
    buttonaction reset

If that leads to the result you want, something really is not correctly set up in your environment.

Keep in mind that the mouse button settings in Workspace>Button Assignments> Remap Buttons, are stored in the active .upf file and that the further definitions are stored in the file: default.btnmenu (as configured by MS_BUTTONMENU).

You could consider to get back to the default definitions for the preferences by using the switch: -restoredefaultsquiet, see:
    communities.bentley.com/.../8671.restore-microstation-to-factory-defaults

As that may be a drastic approach, it might be an idea to make a copy of the current contents of your .upf file and store it outside of the preferences folder that by default can be found with this key-in:
    $ % explorer $(_USTN_HOMEPREFS)

If the behavior is correct again after having used that -restoredefaultsquiet switch and no preferences need to be adjusted, you can remove the file(s) you have backed up.
You may want to move the backed up files to their original location again in case the behavior after the use of the switch is unchanged.

Note that using that switch will also clean up/empty your MicroStation temporary files folder (as specified by: MS_TMP). Obviously emptying that folder should not be a problem.

Would it work better for you if you move the Press and Hold slider in Workspace>Preferences>Input to a longer delay (so instead of the default: 10, move it to e.g.: 50). In this same Input category, is the click sensitivity set to: Normal?

If you have a seed preference defined (MS_USERPREFSEED) to automatically be used in case you have deleted your .upf file (MS_USERPREF), than the settings in that seed preference (.spf) will automatically be applied when MicroStation is restarted.
    Notes:
    - using a (seed) preference from an older version of MicroStation can lead to unpredictable behavior.
    - never share the same .upf file and/or MicroStation temp folder with other colleagues as that may also lead to unpredictable behavior.
    - you may even want to check the settings of your mouse in the windows control panel
