How to search for hidden text in a tag set?

I'm having trouble with Projectwise Explorer V8I finding text in Microstation with its display turned off. Is there a way for Projectwise or Microstation to search for hidden text?

Example: PI-0564-A is not searchable when display is turned off.

 We've updated our VBA text search & replace tool to include tag elements in its search domain... 
 
 It matters not if the tag display is off: the tool finds both visible and hidden tag elements.
