CEU2 - View Attributes

When star the first session and have View Attributes pinned in this show us up:

We always have to unpinned it and pin back in. Similar thing was happening with Material Editor in EAP time.

  • Just to clarify what you are saying here. You have the View Attributes dialog docked and pinned into the edge of the MicroStation CE U2 application window. You have saved settings to ensure this is how the application should always be configured. When you startup MicroStation the next time the display of this dialog is blank. It that correct?

This sounds like it may be a graphics display issue as I have not been able to replicate this on my system. I use Windows 10 but you have not mentioned anything about your PC's system information. The first item to check here might be the version of the graphics display driver to see whether it is the latest recommended by the manufacturer. Have a look through the following Wiki article

    Troubleshooting Graphics Display Issues

Have a read through this next article as it may help as a work around with the defined configuration variable.

  • Hi Andrew,

Your conclusion of my settings is correct.
OS Windows 7. My current graphic card is an Nvidia K1100M. I update the graphic driver to the latest version 368.86.
    The issue still remains.

One thing that I discover now is that when I open MS and go the the pinned panel of View Attributes, all is empty, then if I minimize MS and then restore it when I move my cursor again over View Attributes to open the panel it show everything as is supposed. Strange, could this be related to graphic drivers?

    Regards

    José

  • Just checking some basic details of the Nvidia K1100M graphics card it appears this was technology released in 2013 so might be starting to be improved upon in new hardware. The version of DirectX has also been improved in Windows Updates so newer drivers for this card supplied by Nvidia might be causing issues or it could even be Windows using the newer versions of DirectX.

Have you tried using the configuration variables supplied in the previous Wiki article to disable DirectX V11?

Have you also considered upgrading the graphics card to a newer version?

  • I've force DX9 (with QV_DISABLE_D3D11 and then also with QV_DISABLE_HARDWARE) and the result for my issue is the same.

Unfortunately for now, upgrade the graphic card it's not in the horizon.

The problem of Dx9 vs Dx11 that I've see are always inside the drawing view and not on the menus, and I don't have any issue on the views. My issue only happens in the View Attributes and it doesn't happen in any other menu.

Note that I maybe not been clear before, if the menu is docked on the sides (open) when I start Ms all is well. This only happens if the panel is unpinned (minimized).

Maybe I should test with and older driver to see what happens.

  • Andrew, I am experiencing the same issue as Jose, but I am using CE update 17 with Nvidia M2000 quadro card (all drivers up to date with latest update). The first time I launch Microstation and get into a file the view attributes is blank when I hover over it and it flies out. If I exit or close the file, i.e. ctrl W, and then get back into the file and hover again over view attributes again, everything appears as it should. This sounds more like a GUI issue than a graphics card issue. Yes I have deleted my .UPF file and it still behaves the same.
