I have an existing V7 file that contain approximately 23500 cells that contain data fields. I need to update the cells prior to bringing into our GIS DB. When I run the Replace Cell>method-Update command, none of the existing data fields are retained.
Is there a method to replace/update and still retain the existing data fields?
Thanks

Frank

If the MicroStation cell replacer takes no account of enter-data fields, then you could consider writing (or having written for you) a VBA macro.
Do the existing cell and the proposed replacement cell have identical text fields each having identical enter-data fields?

Mike do these have to stay data fields after the cells have been replaced?
Are they actually part of the cell ?
If they are data fields old school then they can be turned into text and the cells can be replaced without harming the text ... I have an old macro lying around that should drop data fields back to text...
If the data field are on a level different from the cells you could ref attach into a new dgn and only turn on the data field levels copy though to active, turn them back into real text then replace the cells in original file and if data fields are lost you can reuse the new dgn text... via ref attach merge..

The OP's question is fairly clear: He wants to replace one cell instance with another, copying existing enter-data fields into the enter-data fields of each replacement cell. The existing cell replacer doesn't take account of enter-data fields. How does dropping enter-data to text help: it's not what he asked for? What workflow do you envisage that would help him achieve his goal?
